John Winocur
A History of the John, Part I

Ever since the age of nine I have wanted to work in the entertainment industry .

Growing up I always loved to draw and I was obsessed with the idea of creating my own animations. By the time I graduated high school I decided to try and pursue computer programming at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I quickly found out that computer programming, by itself, was not for me. I finished up college at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, ME with a focus in Graphic Design

After spending some time working on some projects back home in New York, I eventually came to the conclusion that I would like to attempt to pursue my dream job in Visual Effects. After weeks of searching I happened upon the Gnomon School of Visual Effects. I will be graduating from Gnomon from the 3 year program in June of 2013, excited to move onto the next big step.

A Quick "Who am I?"
I am a young man. A young man with a dream. A young man with a dream to be able to have the coolest job I could ever possibly want. I have been going to Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood, CA for the past 3 years in pursuit of that dream. Please feel free to roam some of the fields that are the yields of my toil and the soils there within. I hope that you enjoy your visit!

Long time, no update!

Hello my friends! I am glad to see you again. I am updating my site after a brief hiatus from effects for the last 7+ months while working as a TD (99% of which was in Python).

At long last I have returned to working hard on FX and this time I am aiming for a very big passion of mine: Games. Ever since I was a child I have loved video games (sometimes even too much), and a great deal of my free time goes to playing/investingating/reading about/collecting video games.

For the past couple of weeks I have been grinding away trying to really advance my efforts in the way of game FX, and I feel as though I have some solid examples to display in the Unity engine!

It really has been a pleasure working in Unity because I love the feeling that anything is possible as long as you take the time to investigate and experiment. I hope that those of you who take the time to check out my new Reel section enjoy what you see there. In that section I also have a somewhat interactive explorable demonstration of the Unity web engine for you to check out. I hope that you enjoy this new endeavor of mine as much as I have over the past couple of months!

Thank you,
John Winocur

Games games games!

Started my VFX for games class this term, and I must say that I am really excited. I think that out of all the things that I have done, VFX in games gives me the most satisfaction and fun when working on different things. I guess that after years of playing games every week I should have been able to come to that conclusion, but it took coming in and trying it out for me to really wrap my head around the idea. I would love to end up in games after Gnomon!

Internship!

Just a little update – Starting an internship tomorrow at Logan! I am super excited and extremely nervous. I hope that I can be a useful person there. The prospect of working with Houdini and Python is incredibly exciting for me, truth be tolded. Thanks for checkin’ me out on this fine day!

Some works and WIP update

I had some time, so I uploaded some work and WIP into my works section in preparation for internship application!! I will probably convert everything to a YouTube based upload for iOS devices soon, however.

New Site Template!

I decided to stray away from my usual DIY enthusiasm to bring the world a new site in one of the many incredible templates available at Themeforest.  I am extremely excited and great-full for how incredibly versatile and intuitive web development has become for the end user.  Soo happy that I don’t have to code HTML anymore…
